Well my heart's running round like a chicken with its head cut off; all around the barnyard falling in and out of love

4 recent albums which are 5/5 on my scale

Wire's Pink Flag is an album I discovered about a week back...I had heard about it but somehow I never could get hold of it...and then I did. Its a fantastic album and I have a lot to write when I get around to reviewing it...that sounds pompous and I've worked on sounding like that :). Before I write that review, here are 4 albums (released recently - meaning 90s, 00s - which for me is all recent) which are a 5/5 for me on my unscientific, baseless rating scale...

The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs Pt 1

This is sublime...the lyrics are what I would imagine writing (imagine being the key word here) if I was a musician...the Bible of love songs for the modern and may I say the intelligent.

Archers of Loaf - Vee Vee

You can't point out one single thing about this album...and once you get it in your CD player, you'll not take it out till the CD gets scratched....that is, if you get hooked. Punk (punk has become a word like rock'n'roll now - it doesn't mean much) rock which knows what its doing and pretends not to....lets go vee veeeeeeeeeee

Galaxie 500 - On Fire

Galaxie 500 is a band who didn't care too much about what was going on in the late 80s...they made music they liked making...they made a huge mark with the critics but failed dismally otherwise...and now everyone cites them as a great influence and stuff . This can get really slow and very violent and then get even slower and peaceful and then get fast and happy - you've got to listen to this to believe it.

Belle and Sebastian - Push Barman to Open Old Wounds
It could have been If you're feeling Sinister but this is a double album and more Belle and Sebastian is better Belle and Sebastian..also, I listened to this while honeymooning in New Zealand and my wife likes it too! ....and it has those famous lines -
Now I spend my day turning tables round In Marks & Spencer's
They don't seem to mind
