Baby, I love this because you gave it to me, but it is one fuckin ugly tie.

Shutter Island (2010)

Rating: 2.25/5.00
where 5 is my favorite Martin Scorcese film.

My Martin Scorcese education started with the Gangs of New York. I was stunned! For me, it will remain  one of the movies that drew me towards movies as an art form. Then I watched Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino and I  couldn't hear a word against him. I was completely on his side when Aviator came - everyone complained but I thought it was good enough. I then watched the best Scorcese movie ever and I thought how did I ever miss it!

Then came Departed and now Shutter Island. I'm starting to get the feeling the man is losing it. I have some questions for Martin uncle -

Why this story? What's so unique about it? What's so entertaining about it? Departed was a copy of Infernal Affairs. This is from a book. You could've chosen a better book!

Oki...so the point is - it is entertaining and suspense driven and dramatic - Caprio acts well, Ben Kingsley is wasted and generally it all works well but the point is missing! You don't step out of the theatre thinking enlightenment - or thinking hmmmmmm..interesting!

What's the point, Martin? I want a lot more from you...seriously.

IMDB Link for all the praise

  1. I guess, he's running out of good stories. Gangs of new york is of course a master piece. But I am yet to watch other Scorcese films before judging this one.
