I lived on a farm. Yeah. I never lived on a farm.

Don't judge this album by its cover :-)
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest (2010)

Rating 4.25/5.0
Where 5 is The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

Deerhunter's Halcyon Digest is one long trip. It has its highs and lows; it makes you go back to the sunny, psychedelic pop of bands like West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and the cryptic, depressing imagery of 80's R.E.M. The good thing is that Deerhunter don't seem to be obsessed by any of their many influences - they have charted their own path and it shows. Once you get through the first song, (which is like their permitted indulgence for making the rest of this album so good) you are all set for a fantastic, magical train ride through Deerhunter land. Good music, great harmonies and cryptic lyrics to go with it.

The lyrics hit the right spot most of the time - here's one about (a) wanting not to wake up;  (b) wanting not to get old; and (c) wanting to get stoned. Isn't that perfect!

Dream
A little dream
All about the basement scene.
I don't want to wake up
I don't want to wake up
I don't want to wake up
No

If you've seen
The light turn gold

Come out tonight
And we'll get stoned
I don't want to get old
I don't want to get old
I don't want to get old
No
